FAQ

Does CastPad need an internet connection?

No. CastPad talks to your ATEM directly over your local network. No cloud, no account.

Will connecting overwrite my switcher settings?

No. CastPad only follows the live state. Nothing changes until you press a button.

Can two devices control the same switcher?

Yes. Other devices on the same network can open CastPad and control together — every view stays in sync because the switcher is the single source of truth. See Devices & multi-control.

Which switchers are supported?

The ATEM Mini family, ATEM SDI, Constellation HD / 4K / 8K, Production · Broadcast Studio 4K, and Television Studio. See the full list in Devices.

Can it control HyperDeck or streaming encoders?

Yes — add a HyperDeck or Streaming Encoder card and connect it by IP. See Broadcast & recording.

Why doesn’t the top bar show my HyperDeck recording?

The top-bar REC indicator only reflects devices that have a card. The card is what connects CastPad to the HyperDeck or encoder. Add the card and it will appear.

How do I stop a broadcast or recording?

Press and hold the stream/record button. A quick tap shows a reminder instead — this prevents ending a live broadcast by accident.

Do my layout and hidden buttons sync between devices?

No — layout and button edits are saved per device. Changing them on one device never affects the host or the switcher.

Can I rename inputs and keep settings after a reboot?

Yes — edit names in Settings › Source Labels to push them to the switcher, then use Save to device in Settings › Devices to store the current setup as the boot default. See Settings.

Can I animate keyer or SuperSource moves?

Yes — this is something ATEM Software Control can’t do. CastPad glides between your saved positions instead of snapping them into place. Pick a Speed (fast cut → slow glide) and choose smooth Easing or a hard cut; the same engine drives both the upstream-key DVE fly key and SuperSource presets. See Keyers and SuperSource.

How do I change a transition rate, and what’s CUT vs AUTO?

CUT is instant. AUTO plays the armed transition over its rate, entered as seconds:frames (e.g. 1:00) — the same transition the T-bar drives. Set the rate on the Transition card or in the Palettes Transition section. See Transitions.

Does CastPad have audio mixing?

Yes, for the everyday essentials today — levels, ON, AFV, and live metering — with a deeper mixing surface on the way. See Audio.

Can I use it without a real switcher?

Yes. Pick a model in demo / offline mode to explore the layout and pre-configure your Pad. The status shows DEMO in grey.
