Transitions

CastPad gives you transitions on two surfaces. The quick Transition card on the Switcher page has the everyday controls — the armed style buttons, PREV TRANS, CUT, AUTO, and the rate. The deep Transition section on the Palettes page is where you build the style itself — every pattern, source and timing the switcher supports.

The T-bar card (also on the Switcher page) carries the take controls — CUT, AUTO, FTB and the T-bar itself. The T-bar drives the same transition that AUTO runs; both play the currently armed style over its rate.

On switchers with more than one mix effect, both the Transition card and the T-bar card show an M/E tab row. The armed style, CUT/AUTO and the T-bar all act on the M/E you’ve selected there.

CUT vs AUTO

ControlWhat it does
CUTSwitches Program to Preview instantly, with no styled transition.
AUTOPlays the armed style (MIX/DIP/WIPE/STING/DVE) over the rate. Lit while a transition is in progress.

The rate is shown as seconds:frames — e.g. 1:00 is one second and 0:15 is fifteen frames. The ATEM counts rates in a fixed unit of 30 frames per second regardless of your video format — even on a 60p switcher, 1:00 is still one second. You can also type a plain frame count.

Editing a rate

Every rate pill — the transition rate, FTB rate and DSK rate — works the same way: long-press the pill to open the rate editor. There you can nudge the value with / + (±1 frame at a time) or tap the number to type it directly, either as a plain frame count (15) or as seconds:frames (0:15).

Arming a style

The Transition section has five type tabs: MIX · DIP · WIPE · STING · DVE.

There’s a difference between viewing a style and arming it:

  • The tab you’re looking at gets the active highlight — you can inspect any style without changing what the switcher will do.
  • The style the switcher will actually use shows a separate lit (yellow) dot, so you always know what’s armed even while you peek at another tab.

Above the tabs are the action buttons:

ControlWhat it does
PREV TRANSPreviews the transition so you can see it on the Preview output before taking it.
Style-applyLabeled with the style you’re viewing; tap to arm it on the device. Lights next when the armed style matches the viewed tab.
AUTORuns the transition — the same one the T-bar drives. Lit while in progress.

FTB and the T-bar

These both live on the T-bar card on the Switcher page.

FTB fades the whole Program output down to black over its own rate — a separate rate pill next to the button, independent of the transition rate. While the output is black the FTB button stays lit, so the held black state is obvious at a glance; tap it again to fade back up.

The T-bar is a 0–100% drag handle that runs the armed style by hand, ending the take exactly when you reach the far end. The resting end alternates every take — one take finishes at the top (or right), the next finishes back at the bottom (or left) — and each M/E tracks its own resting end independently.

MIX

A straight dissolve from Program to Preview.

  • Rate / 길이 — the dissolve length (seconds:frames).

DIP

Like a MIX, but it passes through a third source on the way (a dip to white or to a bug).

  • Rate / 길이 — the transition length.
  • Dip source / 딥 소스 — the input dipped through, chosen from the visual source picker.

WIPE

A shape sweeps Preview over Program.

  • Pattern — an 18-pattern icon grid (drawn shapes, not numbers, in ATEM Software Control order).
  • Rate / 길이 — the wipe length.
  • Symmetry / 대칭 — 0–100%; enabled only for patterns that support it (greyed out otherwise).
  • Position X / Y — the wipe’s centre point; each axis is enabled only for patterns that use it.
  • Direction / 방향 — forward or reverse, plus a Flip flop / 플립플롭 switch that alternates direction every take.
  • Border width / 보더 폭 — 0–100%. At 0 the border source row disables itself.
  • Softness / 부드러움 — softens the wipe edge.
  • Border source / 보더 소스 — the input shown in the border; greyed when Border width is 0.

STING (Stinger)

A full-motion clip from a media player wipes over the cut — your animated transition.

  • Source / 소스 — the media-player picker (Media Player 1…N, 1-based).
  • Clip duration / 클립 길이 — seconds:frames (up to 999).
  • Trigger point / 트리거 포인트 — the frame in the clip where Program actually swaps.
  • Mix rate / 믹스 길이 — the mix length at the swap.
  • Pre-roll / 프리롤 — lead-in frames before the clip plays.
  • Pre Multiplied Key / 프리멀티플라이 — when ON, hides Clip/Gain/Invert (the clip carries its own key). When OFF: Clip / 클립, Gain / 게인 (0–100%), and an Invert key / 키의 반전 switch.

DVE transition

A digital effect pushes or squeezes Preview in over Program.

  • Movement grid — a Push/Squeeze 8-direction style grid: a 3×3 of direction icons (centre empty), drawn as an incoming screen-box with an arrow. It has two pagesPush / 푸시 and Squeeze / 스퀴즈 — switched by the ‹ / › arrows flanking the title. The page auto-syncs to the device style when it changes; once you page manually it stays put.
  • Rate / 길이 — the move length.
  • Direction / 방향 — forward or reverse, plus a Flip flop / 플립플롭 switch.
  • Effect / 효과 — a single graphic-logo wipe button (the ->| look) that sets the graphic logo style. It is mutually exclusive with the push/squeeze movement, and lights when an Effect style is active.
  • Fill / key rows — gated by Effect: greyed while a movement style is active, enabled only in Effect mode. Fill Source / 필 소스, an Enable key / 키 활성화 switch, then Key source / 키 소스, Pre Multiplied Key / 프리멀티플라이, and (when not premultiplied) Clip / 클립, Gain / 게인, Invert key / 키의 반전.
