Macros

The Macro card runs and records the macros stored on your ATEM switcher — sequences of switcher actions you trigger with one tap. Add it from + Card → Add card → Macro. It’s a single card (you only add one), available on ATEM models that have macro slots.

The card

The header has the card name, a Run immediately switch, and four round buttons:

Control	What it does
＋	Create (record) a new macro
⟳ Loop	Toggle loop playback for the macro player
▶ Play	Run the selected macro (or Continue a paused one)
■ Stop	Stop the running macro

Below the header is a grid of your macros, and a grey +N button at the end that holds hidden macros. The card grows taller as you add more macros.

Running a macro

• Run immediately ON — tapping a macro button runs it right away.
• Run immediately OFF — tapping a macro selects it (orange outline); press ▶ Play to run. Handy for avoiding accidental triggers.

The running macro pulses red. Tap ■ Stop to stop it, or turn on ⟳ Loop to repeat.

User waits (pause for the operator)

If a macro contains a user wait, playback pauses there and the macro turns amber (“Waiting”). Resume with ▶ Play, or by tapping the waiting macro again.

Recording a macro

1. Tap ＋ and enter a name.
2. The whole top bar turns red — you’re now recording. Every switcher action you perform is captured.
3. Insert pauses as needed (see below).
4. Tap ■ Stop to save. The new macro appears in the grid.

Inserting waits while recording

The red top bar has two wait buttons:

• Duration — pauses for a set time. Enter seconds + frames with the ± steppers, then tap Duration.
• User wait — pauses until the operator resumes it (with Play or the macro button).

Each insert flashes green and bumps a ✓ count, so you can see it registered. The bar stays up the whole time — keep performing actions and adding more waits, then Stop when done.

AUTO transitions need a pause after them

Macros replay their actions instantly, back-to-back. An AUTO transition takes time (e.g. 1 second), and the ATEM ignores a new transition command while one is already in progress. So if you record “AUTO … AUTO” with no pause between, only the first one plays back.

Fix: after every AUTO (and FTB, wipe, stinger), insert a Duration wait equal to the transition length. This is the same behavior as Blackmagic’s own ATEM Software Control — and why frame-accurate waits matter. (See Transitions and Keyers.)

What gets recorded

Program/Preview selection, CUT / AUTO transitions and the transition style/rate, USK/DSK on·tie, FTB, media player/stills, AUX routing, audio, camera control — essentially the commands you send. (See Transitions and Keyers.) Waits are not automatic; you insert them yourself.

Organizing the grid

• Rename a macro — long-press it → Rename.
• Delete a macro — long-press it → Delete.
• Reorder — long-press a macro and drag it to the position you want.
• Hide — drag a macro onto the grey +N button to tuck it away.
• Reveal hidden — tap the +N button and pick a macro to bring it back.
• Rename the card — tap the card name in the header.

Your order and hidden choices are remembered on this device. Hiding here is independent of Button edit mode.
