Cards
Everything in CastPad is a card placed on your Pad. Add what you need, arrange it your way, and hide the rest.
Tap + Card in the top bar to open a menu with four items — Add card, Organize cards, Edit layout, and Edit buttons. The menu only appears on the switcher page. Layout and button editing are covered in Editing your Pad; this page covers adding and organizing cards.
Built-in cards
These cards are placed on your Pad automatically based on the switcher model you connect.
| Card | What it does |
|---|---|
| Program / Preview | Choose the live (Program) and next (Preview) sources. Inputs reflow to fit — buttons never stretch. |
| Transition | Transition style (MIX / DIP / WIPE / STING / DVE), plus CUT, AUTO, FTB, and the transition rate. See Transitions. |
| Next transition | Pick what the next take includes — BKGD and the upstream keyers (KEY 1–4). Each keyer also has an instant ON AIR toggle. Full keyer setup in Keyers. |
| Downstream Key | DSK on-air and tie, per downstream keyer. Full keyer setup in Keyers. |
| Audio | Channel faders and levels with 0 dB snap. See Audio. |
| T-bar | Manual transition fader. |
| Broadcast (ON AIR) | Built-in streaming and recording controls. Appears automatically on models that support it (ATEM Mini Pro / Extreme, Television Studio HD8 series, etc.). See Broadcast & recording. |
Multiple M/E switchers show M/E tabs in the Program and Next transition card headers so you can control each mix/effects bank. The tabs stay in sync — switching the bank on one card switches it on the other.
Add-on cards
These cards are added manually from + Card → Add card.
| Card | What it does |
|---|---|
| SuperSource presets | A 6-slot grid that recalls SuperSource box layouts — recomposing the live SuperSource on the program bus with no cut. Needs a model with SuperSource. See SuperSource and Moving without a cut. |
| AUX output | Route any source to AUX outputs. |
| Upstream-Key DVE | Fly a DVE key (PiP) from a 6-slot preset grid and exit arrows — gliding the key between corners and halves with no cut. See Keyers and Moving without a cut. |
| HyperDeck | Transport and record control for Blackmagic HyperDecks (connect by IP). |
| Streaming Encoder | Start/stop the live stream on an external Blackmagic Web Presenter or Streaming Encoder (connect by IP). |
| Macro | Run, record, rename, delete, and reorder the switcher’s macros. See Macros. |
You can add more than one of some cards (for example two HyperDecks); they are numbered automatically.
Organize cards
Open + Card → Organize cards to tidy up your Pad.
- Built-in cards have a show / hide switch. Hiding one removes it from view, and the grid automatically closes the gap so there’s no empty slot. Built-in cards can only be hidden — they can’t be deleted.
- Added cards (HyperDeck, AUX, SuperSource presets, and the rest) have a Remove button. This deletes the card entirely; add it back from Add card whenever you need it.
Card sizes
Cards keep a consistent size so the layout stays tidy:
- Side cards (T-bar, Audio) share a fixed width and height.
- Rail cards (Next transition, Transition, Downstream Key) align to a shared width; the Next transition card narrows when it has only a couple of keyers.
- Program / Preview fills the remaining width and reflows its buttons.
Next: rearrange and customize everything in Editing your Pad.
